Daniel Way “Charges Up” New Marvel NOW! Title
This winter Marvel is completely switching things up, creating new series featuring different characters and swapping writers on many of their ongoing books. With Deadpool's current ongoing series coming to an end, it's safe to say that writer Daniel Way has had a very long and relatively successful run on the title with 60+ issues under his belt. So what’s next for the creator?
When asked in an interview earlier this year what he would be working on since his run on DEADPOOL was coming to an end, Way revealed he would be “working on a team book and…that’s about all I can say.” Considering the writer has ample experience portraying Deadpool in his comic book series, the obvious choice would be for Way to take over writing duties for Rick Remender on UNCANNY X-FORCE since, you know, Deadpool is on the team. This was the rumor that was circulating the net until today.
This morning Marvel unveiled the teaser image for a new book due to hit stores this December that would be written by Way and feature art from Steve Dillon. The teaser consists of one word: “Lightning” and an image of red cross-hairs set in a black background. So, what team book can we associate with the word “Lightning”? Thunderbolts, of course. So the big question we are left with, what Marvel characters will Way have the pleasure of playing with on the upcoming title?

Latest Marvel NOW! Teaser is About Surviving
Marvel is continuing their Marvel Now! teasers. We have another series coming up. This one is by the creative team of Dennis Hopeless and Kevin Walker.
This is more of a mystery. It looks like it might be a new title rather than one getting a new creative team. The past teasers could be deciphered easily but this one…who needs to try to survive? There’s also the blood there that suggests something a little more violent. Maybe I’m just missing the obvious.

"The End" of AVENGERS VS. X-MEN is Coming
As Marvel forced us to wait for the ninth issue of AVENGERS VS. X-MEN, we can’t help but wonder how the heck this big fight is going to end? Throughout the series, there have been some big developments but it’s been more about the fighting. In order to end this war between the two teams and to (most likely) usher in the Marvel NOW! era, something really big has to happen to end this series.
Marvel has released a teaser today for ‘The End.’ While the silhouette looks familiar, it’s likely not who some of us have been hoping for.
The biggest comic event of the year comes to its Universe shattering conclusion in Avengers VS. X-Men #12 this October. Here comes the pain as all your favorite super heroes enter the battle—and only one team will emerge victorious! Don’t miss out on this once in a lifetime comic event in, Avengers VS. X-Men #12, on sale October 3rd in comic shops everywhere, on the Marvel Comics app, and the all-new Marvel Comics Webstore!

Joss Whedon To Co-Write S.H.I.E.L.D. TV Show For ABC
You might recall murmurs of the possibility of a Marvel-related ABC television series. Well, it looks like we got something of a confirmation. Earlier today it was revealed that The Avengers director Joss Whedon would be behind an upcoming ABC television pilot based on S.H.I.E.L.D. and its characters.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Whedon will be responsible for co-writing the pilot of the upcoming show based on the Marvel comic book and team. Joss Whedon is said to be co-writing the pilot with his brother, Jed Whedon and his wife Maurissa Tancharoen. There is also a good chance that Whedon will direct the pilot so long as it does not conflict with his other projects. The three have worked on projects before, such as Whedon’s short film Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, so it’s good to know he will be working with familiar faces.
The possibility of a television show written and directed by the heralded The Avengers director is enough to get any Marvel comics fan excited — but one about S.H.I.E.L.D.? I speak for everyone when I say, “sign me up.” It will be interesting to see what direction Whedon takes with the show; whether he will pick up where The Avengers left off (not likely considering there will be a sequel), or focus on the years before S.H.I.E.L.D. brought the Avengers team together. Perhaps we’ll see actor Clark Gregg reprise the role of Agent Coulson? We’ll have to wait and see. What do you think of the news? Is this a show you would watch?

Ed Brubaker Steps Off WINTER SOLDIER
This January it will be the end of an era. Ed Brubaker will be moving on from writing WINTER SOLDIER, presumably to pursue more creator-owned work. This will bring to a definitive close Brubaker’s time writing Captain America stories in some capacity, which began way back in 2005.
It’s fitting, though, that Ed Brubaker’s final bow at Marvel (for the time being) concludes with his work on WINTER SOLDIER at issue #14. It was Brubaker that brought Bucky Barnes back from the grave in his first story arc on CAPTAIN AMERICA – a feat many balked at at the time. And for the record, Brubaker’s final issue on the current CAPTAIN AMERICA volume will be #19, the writer tweeted today.
The announcement was made during the Fan Expo Canada in Toronto today. However, Brubaker’s departure does not signal the end of the WINTER SOLIDER series. Writer Jason Latour will be stepping in as of issue #15 to fill the giant-sized shoes of Brubaker on the series. Latour is probably best known for his work on LOOSE ENDS and UNTOLD TALES OF PUNISHER MAX.
What’s maybe most surprising about this news in general is that we thought Brubaker would be on WINTER SOLDIER for years to come. When the writer decided to step down from all his other Marvel work a few weeks back, he assured fans he would be staying on WINTER SOLDIER for the foreseeable future. While January is still a ways away, it’s definitely sooner than we expected Brubaker to leave.
